A Christian Perspective on Immigration
I would say that most of the younger generation have little to no idea what the phrase “Halt! Who Goes There?” means, where it came from, or more importantly for our day and time, it’s significance. I intend to make this a multi part article and I hope to address a few of the challenges that Christians come up against when they’re opinions are being enquired.
While most of us can cite 1 or 2 scripture references to promote our viewpoint, this does not, in the slightest, cover all the vantage points this topic would require in order to provide a more substantial solution to our problem. There is the concept of the laws of a Country and how those laws are to be administered by its governing body and how guests to this same Country are to conduct themselves. There needs to be a recognition of circumstances that drive citizens of other nations to flee the land of their nativity in search of any opportunities or to just simply be able to exist, especially where the individuals are younger, weaker, aged, or considerably inexperienced and lack any significant skills.
There is no one answer to this problem. Nor is there one text of scripture that can be called upon for proof of concept. This problem must be thoroughly critiqued and investigated. But only when we recognize the multiple characteristics of each person’s situations can we begin to find a path to viable citizenship.
